What's In A Blog Name?

How do people come up with such savvy blog names? I'm not sure how others derive their blog name, but mine, albeit not 'savvy' by any or all standards, was derived in a round about sense.

The first thought was that this would be something purely for work, since I'm strongly encouraged to have one, and maybe a posting every now and again about me and my thoughts - "Shawn's Blog" or "ShawnTanaka's Blog". Nah, not cool enough, even though people have asked if I have a last name or if it's just one name Shawntanaka? And rumor has it that there is a song out there at various ice hockey rinks around the Denver Metro area that goes, "shawn tanaka. shawn-shawn tanaka. the 's' is for the 'shawn' and the 't' is for 'tanaka' ". All of this first-round thought process was way too narcissistic for me.

Next I thought about the people that are important to me and the things I like and like to do; ice hockey, softball, University of Hawaii sports (win or lose, we are Warrior football fans), cooking, beading, sewing, crafting, being free and clear of my allergy issues (snuck that one in for a future blog post), the places I have been and my immediate and extended families.

The light bulb went on a few times, but not to the extent that I wanted and everything was still "Shawn-centric". In my narrowing down of mental notes and various phrases and being a UH alumni, I semi-settled upon "Warrior In Colorado". But again, it was singular and excluded the others in my household; my husband, children and dogs. So I was still not completely satisfied.

While the light bulb was going on and off, mental notes were being made about who might be reading my blog and what content I would include to enable friends and family to keep in touch and see what we've been up to.

So based on future content and with all of us having a connection to being UH Warrior fans; Lance, a UH alumni and regular UH Football blog reader, Paige, born in Hawaii with hopes of surfing her way through - ahem, I mean attending UH Manoa on a volleyball and ice hockey (haha!) scholarship, Elysse, born in Colorado (can you say "kotonk"?) but a fan simply by birthright and being in attendance at the 2008 Sugar Bowl, and our rescued dogs with Hawaiian names, Ho'olilo and Nalu, my blog name became the "Warriors In Colorado".

Between coming up with a name and figuring out what to write for my first blog post, Lijit says "Shawn Tanaka has been lijit for 1 week, 1 day, 19 hours, 50 minutes and 20 seconds". Way cool that there's this tracking mechanism.

However, this translates into the time it took to do all of it...good grief!
